Suicide Among Men in Ghana
Suicide is a public health crisis in Ghana, with the highest suicide rate in the world among men. Despite the rate of suicide in Ghana being significantly lower than other countries, male suicide is a major concern. It is estimated that suicide rates among men in Ghana are four times higher than in women and represent a significant proportion of all deaths among men in the country. Potential contributing factors to suicide among men include poverty, unemployment, and lack of access to mental healthcare. To address this issue, it is important to develop interventions that address the underlying causes of suicide and to improve access to mental health services for men in Ghana. These interventions should include counselling, job training, and community outreach programs that empower men to better cope with life challenges.
