Saudade
Saudade is an emotion that is unique to Portuguese and Brazilian culture. It is a feeling of longing or nostalgia for something or someone that one may have lost or that may not exist anymore. In some cases, saudade may also describe a feeling of anticipation or hope for something that one wishes to happen. Saudade is often associated with a melancholic expression of beauty, as well as a deep, spiritual connection to the past. Saudade is an integral part of the culture of Portugal and Brazil, often expressed through music, literature and film. It is also an important cultural narrative within the Portuguese-speaking diaspora.
