Autopsy

An autopsy (also known as a post-mortem examination, necropsy, or autopsia cadaverum) is an examination of a deceased person’s body to determine the cause and manner of death. Autopsies are performed both in clinical and non-clinical settings. An autopsy can help identify the cause of death, determine the identity of the deceased, and provide information that can lead to criminal prosecution in certain cases. Autopsies can also provide important medical research data or inform medical decisions in cases of sudden or unexpected death.
