Aneurysms
An aneurysm is a localized dilation or ballooning of an artery wall, which may be caused by atherosclerosis or a congenital defect in the wall of a blood vessel. If left untreated, aneurysms can become dangerous, potentially leading to rupture and massive internal bleeding. Treatment options for aneurysms include surgical repair or endovascular stenting. Early detection of aneurysms is critical in order to avoid such complications, and can be done with imaging tests such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or an angiogram. Treatment of aneurysms is important in order to prevent potentially life-threatening complications.
