Virologist

A virologist is a scientific expert in the study of viruses, which are small infectious organisms that can cause disease in humans, animals and plants. Virologists study a wide range of viruses and their interactions with their hosts, including how they cause disease and how they can be prevented or treated. By understanding the molecular and genetic make-up of a virus and its behavior in different hosts, virologists can develop diagnostic tests, vaccines, treatments and strategies for controlling and preventing viral diseases. Through research, virologists have helped to save countless lives by providing a scientific basis for preventing and treating diseases caused by viruses.
