Viral Tropism

Viral tropism is the ability of a virus to interact with and enter specific cell types in order to replicate. It is an essential factor in the spread of a virus and is usually dependent on the type of receptor present on the cell surface. Viral tropism is important in generating an effective immune response, as it helps identify target cells in the body that are susceptible to viral infection. Additionally, viral tropism is utilized in the development of viral therapies, where specific receptor-binding viruses can be used to target cells with certain diseases. By understanding the tropism of a virus, scientists are able to develop treatments that target certain cell types to reduce or eliminate the spread of the virus or its effects.
