Viral Pathogenesis
Viral pathogenesis is the study of how viruses cause disease in their host organism. Viruses are responsible for a wide range of diseases in humans, animals, and plants; understanding the mechanisms by which they cause infection and disease is critical to effectively controlling them. This knowledge can be used to develop treatments and vaccines, as well as to anticipate, diagnose, and prevent outbreaks. Viral pathogenesis research is thus essential for public health and the development of effective strategies to reduce the burden of virus-related diseases.
