Viral Genetics
Viral genetics is the study of the genetic characteristics of viruses, including their DNA or RNA structure, composition, and evolution. It is a critical part of understanding the ways viruses interact with and infect cells, as well as their potential for causing disease. By studying viral genetics, scientists are able to develop vaccines and therapies for viral diseases, and identify opportunities for preventing or controlling viruses. It also plays an important role in biotechnology, where it is used to create vectors for gene editing or gene therapy. In agriculture, it is used to produce transgenic plants that resist certain viruses and in medical research, it provides insight into the genetics of certain diseases and into the evolution of viruses.
