Vaccinia Virus
Vaccinia virus is a poxvirus that has been used extensively in vaccinology and has played a crucial role in the global eradication of smallpox. It is derived from the same viral ancestor as variola virus, the causative agent of smallpox. Vaccinia virus is employed as a live vaccine vector and is used as the platform for many recombinant vaccines, as it can be genetically manipulated easily, making it very useful in the development of other vaccines against many human and animal diseases.
