Tick-borne Encephalitis Virus
Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is a tick-borne virus that causes severe human neurological disease, including encephalitis, meningitis, and meningoencephalitis. Transmitted by infected ticks and to a lesser extent, by animal bites, TBEV has a highly varied geographic distribution and is considered one of the major arbovirus diseases in Europe, Asia and the Americas. TBEV can be fatal, so early diagnosis and proper treatment is critical. Vaccination can also be effective in preventing TBEV infection.
