Serology

Serology is the study of biological fluids like serum, or the fluid portion of the blood and other body fluids, to detect the presence of substances like antibodies or antigens. Serology is an important tool in medical diagnosis, including for infections such as HIV, hepatitis, and Lyme disease. Serology can also be used to detect the presence of antibodies to pathogens or toxins in food or water, to identify unknown bacteria and to monitor immune responses to vaccinations. Serology can also be used to detect autoimmune antibodies, which can cause a range of diseases and conditions.
