Rubella Virus
Rubella virus is a contagious pathogen that can cause a mild illness in children, known as German measles or three-day measles. Symptoms usually include a rash, fever, and swollen glands. In pregnant women, rubella can cause serious birth defects or even miscarriage. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent rubella virus infection. Vaccination has virtually eliminated rubella from many parts of the world, and has greatly reduced the rate of birth defects due to rubella infection.
