Rhinovirus
Rhinovirus is one of the most common viruses that cause the common cold. It is a small virus that can infect the upper respiratory tract and is a member of the picornavirus family. It is highly contagious and can survive and spread quickly in cool, damp environments. Rhinovirus is the source of many cold symptoms, including coughing, sneezing, nasal congestion, and sore throat. It can also cause more serious complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and asthma exacerbations. There is no cure for rhinovirus, however there are treatments that can help reduce symptoms. Preventative measures such as washing your hands frequently, avoiding shared objects, and avoiding contact with people who are ill can help reduce your risk of exposure and transmission of rhinovirus.
