Potyvirus
Potyviruses are a large family of plant viral pathogens that cause disease in crops and ornamental plants. They are among the most important plant viruses, causing significant economic losses in agricultural production worldwide. Symptoms of potyvirus infections vary, but generally include stunting, leaf mottling, puckering, and curling, which can reduce crop yields. Potyviruses are spread through contact with contaminated soils, plants, and tools, and through the movement of infected seed and vegetative material. Control of potyviruses is essential for disease management, and can be achieved through crop rotation, avoidance of planting susceptible crops, and the use of resistant variety. In addition, chemical, biological, and mechanical control methods may be employed as well.
