Htlv-1
Htlv-1 (Human T-cell Leukemia Virus Type 1) is an infectious virus which affects the human immune system. It is mainly transmitted through sexual contact, breast milk and blood transfusions, and rarely through contact with contaminated needles or other objects. Htlv-1 can cause a rare form of leukemia known as Adult T-cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATLL). It can also cause a chronic neurological disease called tropical spastic paraparesis, as well as other diseases. Htlv-1 is an important disease that warrants public health action, particularly in populations with high prevalence. Diagnosis of Htlv-1 is important for early detection and effective management of diseases caused by the virus. Currently, blood tests and molecular tests can be used to effectively diagnose infection with Htlv-1. Treatment for Htlv-1 is still under investigation, but early diagnosis is key to ensure a more effective management.
