Highly-active Antiretroviral Therapy
. Highly-active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is a combination of multiple antiretroviral medications used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HAART is considered the standard of care for HIV therapy, and is the most effective treatment available for reducing the replication of HIV. This leads to improved health outcomes, reduces the risk of HIV transmission, and substantially prolongs the life expectancy of HIV-positive individuals. HAART also preserves and improves the quality of life of those affected, reducing their risk of AIDS-related complications and allowing them to live longer lives with a better quality of life.
