Foodborne Diseases
Foodborne diseases are illnesses caused by consuming contaminated food and drinks. These illnesses are usually caused by bacteria, parasites, toxins or viruses found in foods. Common foodborne diseases include salmonellosis, E. coli and norovirus. Symptoms of foodborne diseases can range from mild to severe, and may include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The most effective way to prevent foodborne illnesses is to practice good food safety in the home and when eating out. This includes washing hands and surfaces often, keeping raw and cooked foods separate, and always cooking food to the proper temperature. By following these steps, people can help protect themselves and their families from the risk of foodborne diseases.
