Cholestasis
Cholestasis is a medical condition where bile or its acid components are blocked from flowing in the gallbladder or the ducts, causing a back-up of bile in the liver. It can be caused by a variety of things, such as a blockage in the common bile duct, viral hepatitis, or a side effect of certain drugs or medical treatments. Symptoms of this condition include jaundice, pale stool, itchy skin, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Cholestasis can be treated with medication, surgery, or lifestyle changes. It is important to detect and treat this condition promptly, as left untreated, it can lead to scarring and permanent damage to the liver.
