Bacteriophages

Bacteriophages are viruses that infect and replicate inside bacteria. They are the most abundant biological entities on Earth and can be found in all environments, including soil, oceans, and even within animals and plants. Bacteriophages have been used for centuries to fight against harmful bacteria, and are now being explored to treat a variety of diseases such as infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria. Bacteriophages could potentially be used in place of antibiotics, and may also be used as gene therapy agents to modify the genetic material within cells. As such, bacteriophages are becoming increasingly important in biomedical research, and their applications may ultimately revolutionize the treatment of disease.
