Avian Paramyxovirus
Avian Paramyxovirus (APMV) is a virus that can affect many species of birds, including backyard chickens. APMV is highly contagious and can cause severe respiratory disease, including inflammation of the lungs and air sacs, as well as neurologic signs such as tremors, head and neck twitching, and paralysis. In addition, it may cause reproductive issues, reduced egg production and eggshell abnormalities. Therefore, it is essential to prevent the spread of APMV, as it can cause significant losses in the poultry industry. Vaccines are available to help protect birds from APMV. Vaccinating poultry with an APMV vaccine is an important step in preventing outbreaks in both commercial and backyard flocks.
