Archaeal Viruses

Archaeal viruses, also known as archaeviruses, are viruses that infect microorganisms belonging to the domain Archaea. They are of important scientific interest as they can help us better understand the evolution and diversity of life on earth. Archaeal viruses are involved in gene exchange between different species and have been shown to have roles in biogeochemical cycles in global ecosystems. Additionally, they represent a source of potentially valuable genetic material for use in biotechnology.
