Alphaviruses

Alphaviruses are a group of RNA viruses, most of which cause diseases in humans and animals. They are mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions, and are usually spread by mosquitoes. Alphaviruses can cause a range of symptoms, from mild fever and flu-like illness to more severe conditions such as encephalitis. Treatment consists of preventing the spread of infection, providing supportive care, and in some cases, antiviral medications. Alphaviruses are of significant interest in the medical and scientific communities due to their potential to cause severe disease and even death. Research into alphaviruses continues in order to develop better treatment options and vaccines.
