Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disorder that can cause long-term inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the large intestine. It is a chronic condition, meaning that it can last for many years, and can cause pain and other uncomfortable symptoms. Its exact cause is unknown, though it is believed to be the result of a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Treatment for ulcerative colitis is centered around relieving symptoms and maintaining remission, which can be done through lifestyle changes, medications, or in extreme cases, surgery. Sufferers of ulcerative colitis may also require additional treatments for side effects and complications, such as nutritional deficiencies, anemia, and colon cancer.
