Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation, pain, and stiffness in the joints of the body. It is believed to be caused by an overactive immune system, which attacks healthy tissues and causes swelling and pain. RA can affect any joint in the body, though the hands and feet are most commonly affected. Symptoms of RA include joint swelling, pain, stiffness and decreased range of motion. Treatment for RA typically consists of medications and lifestyle modifications, designed to reduce inflammation and keep the disease from getting worse. Proper management of RA can help prevent joint damage and improve overall quality of life.
