Hypertensive Disorders in Pregnancy
Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, or HDP, are blood pressure related conditions that occur during or after pregnancy. HDP affects up to 10 percent of pregnancies in the United States and can lead to serious complications for both the mother and baby. HDP can cause preterm birth, low birth weight, placental abruption, and postpartum hemorrhage. It is important for at-risk women to be monitored throughout pregnancy to identify and manage any symptoms of HDP. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent more serious complications for both the mother and baby.
