Bronchiectasis

Bronchiectasis is a lung condition which involves a permanent enlargement of the airways, resulting in recurrent respiratory infections, breathlessness and wheezing (1). It is typically caused by an underlying infection, immune conditions, airway obstruction, or trauma (2). Bronchiectasis is a serious and progressive lung disease which can lead to severe health complications if not properly managed (3). Treatment usually involves a combination of antibiotics and other medications to help control airway inflammation and reduce the risk of infection (4). In addition to medical interventions, chest physiotherapy may also be recommended to help clear mucus from the airways and improve overall airflow (5). With appropriate medical care, it is possible to maintain good lung function and improve quality of life for those with bronchiectasis.
