Autoimmune Diseases
Autoimmune diseases are a group of health conditions caused by a person's immune system mistakenly attacking their own body. The immune system produces antibodies that are meant to protect the body from bacteria, viruses, and other foreign invaders. In an autoimmune disease, the antibodies instead target healthy cells and tissues, resulting in inflammation and damage. Common autoimmune diseases include type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis. Treatments typically involve medications to reduce symptoms and suppress the immune system, as well as lifestyle changes to reduce inflammation and stress. Autoimmune diseases can be difficult to diagnose and manage, but if caught and managed early, they can be effectively treated and managed.
