Allergy

Allergy is an exaggerated response of the immune system to a normally harmless substance, such as pollen, food, or pet dander. Symptoms can range from mild itching, sneezing, or rash to life-threatening anaphylactic shock. Allergy is a common condition typically affecting the respiratory system, skin, eyes, and digestive system and can be managed with identification of the allergen and avoidance, pharmacological therapy, immunotherapy, and lifestyle modifications. The identification of possible allergies helps prevent misdiagnosis and the development of potentially serious conditions.
