GI Cancer During Pregnancy
Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer during pregnancy is a rare but serious condition. It occurs when cancer develops or is diagnosed in a woman who is either pregnant or recently delivered a baby. This type of cancer is most commonly seen in connection with colorectal, ovarian, and stomach cancer, but may also affect other areas of the gastrointestinal system. Pregnancy-related GI cancers often have an aggressive behavior and an increased risk of recurrence due to their hormonal nature. Early detection and effective management of these cancers can minimize maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, making it essential for pregnant women to be aware of the potential signs and symptoms of GI cancer. It is also important for healthcare professionals to be aware of the current best practices in diagnosis and treatment of GI cancer during pregnancy.
