Chloroplasts

Chloroplasts are specialized organelles found in plants and algae that are responsible for photosynthesis, the process by which light energy is converted into chemical energy. Chloroplasts contain pigments such as chlorophyll that absorb light energy and power the chemical reactions necessary for photosynthesis. Through photosynthesis, chloroplasts produce oxygen and store energy in the form of sugars, which are used by the plant for growth and development. Chloroplasts also play a key role in maintaining a balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the environment.
