Hiv Wasting Syndrome
HIV Wasting Syndrome (sometimes referred to as HIV Cachexia) is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that is associated with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection and AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). It is characterized by unintentional weight loss, muscle wasting, and fatigue. If left untreated, HIV Wasting Syndrome can cause severe problems, including a weakened immune system, anemia, and organ failure. Treatment of HIV Wasting Syndrome may include a diet plan that focuses on consuming high-calorie, nutrient-dense foods, as well as taking supplements, such as oral nutrients and anabolic steroids. In addition, anti-retroviral medications may be used to slow the progression of HIV and reduce the risk of further weight loss. It is important to note that, while HIV Wasting Syndrome can be managed, the condition cannot be cured.
