Hiv Virus
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the immune system and can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) if left untreated. HIV is spread through blood, semen and other bodily fluids, and is most often contracted through having unprotected sex, sharing needles, and through mother-to-child transmission. HIV is a significant public health concern, but treatments are available that can help people living with the virus manage their condition and live long, healthy lives. Early diagnosis and treatment is key to avoiding the progression of HIV to AIDS, which is why testing and prevention are a major part of stopping the spread of the virus.
