Hiv-coinfected Patients
HIV-coinfected patients are individuals who are infected with both HIV and another type of virus, most commonly hepatitis B or C. Having two viruses increases the risk of developing complications, such as chronic liver disease, since the viruses act in synergy to cause damage. HIV-coinfected patients require better management of their diseases, involving a combination of treatments and antiretroviral therapies. Early diagnosis and treatment can reduce the risk of developing complications and even improve the patient’s life expectancy. Additionally, HIV-coinfected patients should be encouraged to seek regular medical care and adhere to their treatments in order to reduce the risk of transmission to others.
