Public Health Nursing
Public health nursing is a field of nursing focused on preventive health care. It is concerned with identifying and addressing health-related needs and issues of populations, rather than individuals. Public health nurses have a unique set of skills and training which enable them to assess, plan and implement health promotion and disease prevention initiatives. Through community health assessments and outreach, they are able to identify target populations, diagnose issues, plan and provide interventions, and evaluate outcomes. Public health nurses collaborate with other health professionals, as well as policy makers, to ensure that the health of a given population is addressed effectively. Their work is essential in promoting the health and well-being of communities, and in preventing and controlling the spread of disease.
