Oncology Nursing

Oncology nursing is a specialized field of nursing that focuses on the care of patients undergoing diagnoses, treatments and management of cancer. Oncology nurses strive to improve patient outcomes by providing evidence-based care and support to patients, families and caregivers. They provide education on the disease and its treatments, coordinate care amongst the multidisciplinary team and provide emotional support during the difficult times. Oncology nurses have the unique opportunity to collaborate and coordinate care to the unique needs of each patient, providing tailored care that can result in better outcomes. Because of the highly specialized nature of oncology nursing, nurses in this field require advanced education and training.
