Forensic Nursing

Forensic Nursing is the application of nursing science to the investigation and treatment of offenders and victims of crime, violence and trauma. It is a specialized field of nursing dedicated to providing knowledge, expertise and services to victims, perpetrators, and the judicial system in order to prevent and reduce the impact of physical and psychological trauma. Forensic Nursing uses evidence-based practices to assess, diagnose, treat, and facilitate the recovery of trauma victims. Forensic Nurses also provide crisis intervention, advocacy, education, and consultation services. As an interdisciplinary profession, Forensic Nursing is critical for increasing the safety of communities and providing holistic legal, ethical and compassionate care to victims of crime, violence and trauma.
