Correctional Nursing

Correctional nursing is a specialized form of nursing that involves providing healthcare to individuals who are incarcerated or detained. Correctional nursing is an important field as it provides essential medical services to incarcerated individuals in prisons, jails, and other correctional facilities. Correctional nurses often work with a variety of health concerns, such as mental health issues, physical injuries, chronic and infectious diseases, substance abuse, and trauma. Correctional nurses must be knowledgeable in areas such as security protocols, legal issues, and inmate rights while providing a safe and secure environment for both the health care team and the patient. Correctional nursing is a challenging, yet rewarding, career that allows nurses to help improve the lives of those in the criminal justice system.
