Viral Tropism
Viral tropism is the ability of a virus to specifically target certain cells in the body. It involves the recognition of a wide range of cell characteristics and the mechanism by which the virus can enter and replicate inside the cell. Viral tropism is important in the understanding of viral diseases, as the tropism of a virus affects the organs or tissues it can infect. By studying viral tropism, it is possible to develop drugs and vaccines that can specifically target and prevent infections from occurring. Viral tropism also plays a role in gene therapy, as viruses can be used to deliver therapeutic genetic material to targeted cells.
