Viral Pathogens
Viral pathogens are microscopic organisms that invade cells and use their biochemical machinery to replicate themselves, causing infections in living organisms from human to plants. They are one of the major causes of disease and death in humans, animals, and plants. Through the study of viral pathogens, scientists can develop new treatments for infectious diseases, as well as improved vaccine and containment strategies. Furthermore, as viruses have been implicated in cancer, understanding their biology can also help to develop new cancer treatments.
