Synechococcus
Synechococcus is a genus of photosynthetic cyanobacteria, consisting of unicellular, motile organisms. They are abundant in marine and freshwater ecosystems, and actively contribute to global carbon and oxygen cycles. Synechococcus plays an important role in converting solar energy into biomass, thus making them important primary producers in aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, they are used as a model organism in the studies of photosynthesis and its regulatory mechanisms, making them of considerable importance in the field of photosynthesis research. Furthermore, Synechococcus has become a fundamental organism used for bio-production, bioremediation, and bioprospecting.
