Secretion Systems
Secretion systems are specialized cellular pathways that allow cells to transport proteins and other molecules out of the cell. These systems are extremely important for many physiological processes, including digestion, the immune response, and hormone regulation. Secretion provides cells with the ability to effectively modify their environment, share metabolic products with other cells, and move and interact with other cells. Dysfunction of secretion systems can lead to a wide range of diseases and disorders, including cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes. Research into secretion systems has also helped us to develop novel therapeutics and vaccines for many conditions.
