Scarlet Fever

Scarlet fever is an infectious disease caused by group A Streptococcus bacteria. It usually begins with a sore throat, fever and rash. After a few days, a fine red rash appears on the face, chest and stomach. Scarlet fever can also cause swollen glands and a reddened tongue. It is important to seek medical help in order to avoid potential complications, such as kidney damage, rheumatic fever and pneumonia. Treatment with antibiotics is usually successful. Scarlet fever is a highly contagious disease, so it is important to practice good hygiene to avoid the spread of the bacteria.
