Prostatectomy
A prostatectomy is a surgical procedure to remove part or all of the prostate gland. It is commonly used to treat advanced prostate cancer and can be done either using traditional open surgery, or laparoscopically (using small incisions and a scope). It can also be used to treat other prostate-related conditions, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Prostatectomy can improve symptoms caused by prostate enlargement, such as frequent urination and difficulty urinating, and can improve life expectancy for those with prostate cancer. While surgery can cause complications, many of these can be effectively managed with appropriate treatment and follow-up care.
