Osteoclasts

Osteoclasts are the specialized cells responsible for breaking down and reabsorbing the bone matrix. They are found in the bone marrow and work to remodel and remodulate bone tissues. This process is called bone remodelling and is an essential part of the maintenance of skeletal health. Osteoclasts are essential in providing calcium to the bloodstream, and thus, important for bone health and in preventing bone diseases such as osteoporosis. In addition, they play a crucial role in the healing and repair of bone fractures and other bone related diseases. Consequently, they are crucial components of the skeletal system and any modulation of their function can lead to serious consequences.
