Nephrology
Nephrology is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the kidney. It involves the management of conditions such as hypertension, glomerular disease, kidney stones, and chronic kidney disease (CKD), which can eventually lead to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Nephrologists also provide care for patients undergoing dialysis, transplantation, and intensive care units as necessary. The importance of nephrology lies in its ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat conditions that can cause life-threatening complications and even death. Nephrology therefore has an important role in helping maintain health and quality of life for individuals with kidney disease.
