Hematology

Hematology is the medical science that specializes in the study of the blood and blood-forming tissues. It is used to diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions related to the blood, such as anemia, leukemia, sickle cell disease and hemophilia. Blood tests are used to measure levels of red and white blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin, and other blood components. Through the analysis of these components, hematologists are able to identify and diagnose diseases, and provide treatments that improve the health of patients. Hematology is an important part of the practice of medicine and is necessary for the diagnosis, treatment and management of many medical conditions.
