Haemophilus

influenzae Haemophilus influenzae is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria. It is found in the normal flora of the nose and throat of humans and is a major cause of serious respiratory and other infections in young children. H. influenzae is best known for causing influenza-like illnesses, including bacterial meningitis, epiglottitis, sinusitis and pneumonia, but it can also cause septic arthritis, bacteremia, and other systemic infections. Vaccines are available to protect against most types of H. influenzae, which are recommended for all children, as well as adults with certain medical conditions. Additionally, treatments with antibiotics showing good efficacy and safety can be used to combat infections caused by H. influenzae.
