Fusobacteria
Fusobacteria are a group of Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria that are known to cause a variety of diseases in humans, ranging from the mild mouth ulcer to the fatal cases of sepsis. Fusobacteria can also be found in the environment, as well as in biofilms, where they are capable of degrading a wide range of organic matter. Due to their ability to cause disease and to degrade organic matter, Fusobacteria are considered one of the most important bacteria to study in the field of environmental and medical microbiology. Fusobacteria are also known to produce a variety of molecules that play a role in cancer, inflammation, and other diseases. As such, they are being studied as potential targets for drug development.
