Francisella Tularensis

Francisella Tularensis is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium that belongs to the family Francisellaceae. It is the causative agent of the serious infectious disease called tularemia. Infection with this bacterium can lead to serious complications such as fever, pneumonia, and swelling of the lymph nodes. This bacterium can be spread through contact with infected animals, by ingestion of contaminated food or water, and through the bite of certain infected insects. It can also be spread through inhalation of contaminated dust or aerosols. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment with antibiotics is necessary to prevent serious health complications associated with tularemia. Vaccines are available to prevent infection with F. tularensis.
