Epsilonproteobacteria

Epsilonproteobacteria are a class of curved, rod-shaped bacteria found in many environments, including aquatic and terrestrial. They are chemoautotrophic, meaning they use inorganic compounds to produce energy and utilize a modified form of respiration called anaerobic respiration. Epsilonproteobacteria are significant because they are important for recycling environmental nutrients, participating in sulfur and nitrogen cycles, and providing a food source for larger organisms. They are also important in the production of biogas, an alternative to conventional energy sources. In addition, due to their diverse metabolic capabilities, Epsilonproteobacteria are being studied for use in bioremediation and biotechnology applications.
